Create your own box type: cell diameter and cover layout

How to do it

  1. Open «Reference data (DB tables)» in the menu and go to the «Box types» tab.
  2. Press «+ Add box type» - the «New box type» form opens. The shorter way: find a suitable factory model marked «market» and press «Copy» - the copy becomes your own, gets a name like «Box 12 (copy)» and opens for editing.
  3. Enter the «Name» - «Box 12», for example.
  4. Pick one of the three cell diameters - the buttons read 40 mm, 3" and 4" (the «Hole diameter (one per cover)» field). That is 40 mm, 3 inches (76 mm) and 4 inches (102 mm); there are no other values. The diameter is one for the whole cover; a single type cannot mix cell sizes.
  5. Place the cells in «Hole layout (tap a node)»: tap the grid nodes, tapping again removes a cell. Grey nodes cannot be tapped - the centres of neighbouring cells must stay at least the cell diameter plus 10 mm apart, otherwise the cover cannot be drilled.
  6. Switch on «In use (show when creating a box)» and press «Save».

When it is available

  • Available to an administrator.
  • Creating YOUR OWN type is a Pro plan feature. Free gets ONE trial for the whole plan: the first own type can be created, but after saving the editor closes and the add button turns grey with a PRO tag. On Pro the editor stays open, and the number of your own types is not limited.
  • Factory models (the «market» mark) are available to everyone without Pro: boxes can be created from them straight away, with nothing to build. Pro is needed only for an OWN type - including a copy of a factory model, because the copy is already your own.

Important

  • THIS IS NOT ADDING A BOX TO THE BAR. What is created here is a TYPE - a cover with its diameter and cell layout. The box itself is added to the working bar later, with the round «+» button (see FEAT-024), and there you pick from the types that ALREADY exist.
  • This editor is also called the box type constructor, or the custom box constructor - it is one and the same place.
  • To get a box with 3 inch cells you need a TYPE with that diameter: either a factory model with 3 inch cells, or your own type built here. Adding a box to the bar never asks for a diameter - it comes with the type.
  • HOW TO SWITCH THE «In use» FLAG ON OR OFF: it sits right in the type's row on the «Box types» tab - tap it, there is no need to open the editor. THE FLAG IS AVAILABLE ON ANY PLAN, Free included, to an editor and to an administrator: it is a working state, not editing. Pro is needed to create and edit the type itself, but not to take an existing type into work or out of it.
  • Without the «In use» flag the type does not show up in the list when a box is added to the bar: it exists, but is not offered for work.
  • A factory model cannot be changed, its editing is closed - only a copy can. The box map is drawn in true proportion from the factory model.
  • «If boxes of this type already exist, the diameter and layout cannot be changed (name and flag can)» To change the layout, create a new type or copy this one.
  • «This type was created by the old generator (no cover geometry). To set a layout in the editor, create a new type. Only the name and the "In use" flag are available here»
  • A type that already has boxes cannot be deleted. A removed type is not gone for good - it goes to the archive and can be restored on the «Archive (restore)» screen.

If you see a message

  • «This feature is available on the Pro plan» - the one editor trial on Free has been used up. Factory models stay available, and the type created during the trial keeps working.
  • «Type name is required» - the type name is empty. Fill the field in.
  • «Place at least one hole» - the layout has no cells. Tap the grid nodes.
  • «Hole diameter: one of … mm» - the diameter is picked from the three values named in the message.
  • «At least one hole is required» - the cover must have at least one hole.
  • «Duplicate hole node» - two holes landed on the same grid node. Remove the extra one.
  • «Wall is too thin: hole centres must be at least … mm apart» - the holes stand too close: the wall between them is thinner than allowed. The message names the minimum in millimetres.
  • «Changing geometry requires hole_mm, nodes and grid size» - changing the geometry needs all three values: the hole diameter, the nodes and the grid size.
  • «Invalid grid size» - the grid size is set incorrectly.
  • «Grid "…" must be an integer not less than 1» - the number of rows and columns is a whole number not less than one.
  • «A factory model cannot be modified - make a copy» - a factory (market) model is not editable. Make a copy and edit that.
  • «Cannot change the layout of a type that already has boxes» - the layout cannot be changed while boxes of this type exist.
  • «Cannot delete a box type that is in use» - boxes have been created from this type. It can be deleted only when no such boxes are left.
  • A box is added to the working bar separately, and from the types that already exist (FEAT-024).
  • Factory models and what can be done with them - FEAT-027.
  • The whole Free and Pro boundary - FEAT-035.
